Vegan Camping Recipes
It’s a fact: Eating outdoors makes food taste better, especially if you are cooking it over a fire while camping. Plus, you get to use a poker or a stick to cook. How fun is that?! Super fun, the answer is super fun.
Check out these delish recipes for the best (and easiest!) vegan camping food. All you need is a poker and some tin foil. (And some adult help. It is an open fire after all, so be careful!)
Vegan hot dogs
Vegan buns
Ketchup, mustard, or other toppings
- Slide a vegan hot dog onto your poker from one end to the other.
- Hold over the fire but not in it. Rotate so that all sides get cooked but not burned.
- Slide off the poker and onto a bun.
- Add toppings (if you want to) and eat!
Vegan marshmallows
Dark chocolate
Vegan graham crackers (Hint: Nabisco Original Graham Crackers are vegan!)
- Slide a marshmallow securely onto your poker.
- Roast over the fire, making sure that it doesn’t catch fire!
- Break a graham cracker in half and top one half with a piece of chocolate and the cooked marshmallow. Place the second half on top and eat!
Choose about 4 ingredients from the following list:
Red peppers
Yellow peppers
Button mushrooms
Red onions
Marinated tofu
Cherry tomatoes
Zucchini
Pineapple
- Before you leave on your trip, have an adult cut up your chosen ingredients into 3/4-inch-thick pieces. (You don’t want them falling off your poker!) Place in a bag and bring with you.
- When it is time to eat, load the ingredients on your poker, making sure that they are secure and won’t fall off.
- Have an adult help you hold the skewers steady over the fire but not in it. (You want to heat them up, not have them catch fire!)
- Keep turning your poker so that the ingredients cook all the way around.
- Slide the ingredients off your poker and onto your plate and eat. (Be careful to not touch the poker or ingredients with your fingers—they will be really hot!)
4 medium sweet potatoes
Vegan margarine, salt, pepper, or other toppings
- Wrap the sweet potatoes in tin foil before you leave on your trip. It will protect them, and they will be ready to cook really quickly.
- About 40 minutes before it is time to eat, have an adult find a place in the fire that has hot coals but no fire.
- Have the adult place the sweet potatoes on the hot coals and let cook, turning every 10 minutes or so, until soft. You can check the softness by sticking the sweet potatoes with your poker. When the poker slides in easily, they are done!
- Have an adult take the sweet potatoes out of the fire with tongs and open the tin foil to let cool off a little.
- Add toppings (if you want to) and eat!
